Kennelly: In entering its 4/17/2025 minute entry (dkt. 21) the Court overlooked the fact that plaintiff had, in fact, filed an amended complaint naming fewer defendants than the 735 originally named. The Court apologizes for its error. However, upon examination, the amended "Schedule A" (list of defendants) filed by plaintiff on 3/21/2025 lists 250 defendants (dkt. 10-2). The Court's 4/17/2025 order limited plaintiff to "no more than 150 defendants." The amended complaint still does not comply with the order. So the remaining terms of the Court's 4/17/2025 order (requiring plaintiff to show cause and setting a telephonic hearing date) remain in effect.

MINUTE entry before the Honorable Matthew F. Kennelly: On 4/9/2025, the Court granted plaintiff's motion for leave to file under seal and to temporarily proceed under a pseudonym but denied plaintiff's motion for a TRO and for electronic service without prejudice because it concluded that plaintiff could not appropriately joint 735 defendants in a single complaint. The Court said it would entertain renewed motions for a TRO and for electronic service if plaintiff filed an amended complaint including no more than 150 defendants and dropping the others. Since then plaintiff has taken no action. It is not clear why. In order to get matters off the dime, the Court orders plaintiff to show cause why the Court should not now require plaintiff to proceed under its own name. Plaintiff is directed to respond in writing by no later than 4/23/2025. A telephonic hearing is set for 4/30/2025 at 9:05 AM, using call-in number 650-479-3207. The Court will vacate the show cause order and the hearing if plaintiff files an amended complaint naming no more than 150 defendants by 4/23/2025.

MINUTE entry before the Honorable Matthew F. Kennelly: The Court grants plaintiff's motion to file under seal and grants its motion to temporarily proceed under a pseudonym, but under this case number only 11. Plaintiff's motion for electronic service and its motion for an ex parte temporary restraining order 14 16 are both denied without prejudice. Plaintiff is attempting to sue 735 defendants in a single case. That stretches joinder under Rule 20 beyond the breaking point in this Court's view, and it also imposes an undue burden on the Court. The Court will entertain renewed motions for a TRO and for electronic service on an amended complaint that includes no more than 150 defendants and drops the others.
